I posted this dress on Craigslist a while ago, hoping to make some extra cash. Maybe it’s not as beautiful as I think it is because I didn’t get a single response. A little disappointed, I considered throwing it into the Goodwill pile. But I remembered a segment I saw a few years ago about donating formals for girls who are not in the economic position to afford the sometimes hundreds of dollars that goes into the prom get-up. is a WEALTH of information and provides many opportunities to give and serve others. There are hundreds of formal boutiques participating in the program, and if there isn’t a local shop near you there are several organizations that accept gowns by mail.

This USMC Ball has-been is getting sent out tomorrow. If you have formals sitting in your closet consider donating them now, when the flurry of excitement around prom is mounting as well as the possible financial stress of finding a dress.

that’s cool, i’ve never heard of that. it is really fun, however, to keep them for your little girls to play dress up in later on…

Shannon, you’re awesome. I love your giving spirit and your big heart. Some girl is going to look fabulous and be simply glowing from your generosity. Good job, Darlin!

This is so COOL. I have a TON of old dresses that I could donate! 2 dresses a year, for 4 years in high school…plus 2 Marine Corps Balls. That’s 8 dresses!

That was such a fun ball, wasn’t it?

It WAS fun Dana! That free bottle of wine you guys won, hahahah! I decided to go with Prom Project in Kentucky (because that state is probably one of the most impoverished in the country). Can’t lie, the website made me teary. It would be really cool if you could de-dress your closet, there are three listed in Michigan.
